Who is Lil Murda in Starz’ ‘P-Valley’? Meet J. Alphonse Nicholson

P-Valley is a Starz Original drama series that follows the lives of employees working at a strip club called The Pynk in the fictional city of Chucalissa, Mississippi. One of the show’s main characters is un-and-coming and fame-thirsty wannabe rapper, Lil Murda (J. Alphonse Nicholson), who, at first glance, seems to check all of the boxes as a stereotypical, hyper-masculine black male character trying to make a name for himself, even if it takes potentially dangerous actions or situations to get where he wants to go. In actuality, Lil Murda is an extremely nuanced character who defies stereotypes and pre-conceived notions of race, masculinity, and sexuality, especially when it comes to his relationship with club owner Uncle Clifford (Nicco Annan).

In a recent interview with TV Guide, Nicholson discussed the mindset of his multi-layered character, saying “He’s still trying to figure it out. He’s a mix of emotions. He’s a complex and layered guy, and he’s really trying to find himself and who he is. I want people to see him as that.”

WHO IS J. ALPHONSE NICHOLSON?

Nicholson is an actor and drummer originally from Greensboro, North Carolina. According to TV Overmind, he enrolled in North Carolina Central University’s theater program in 2008, but ultimately dropped out to focus on his dream of becoming a professional actor, relocating to New York City in 2013 to be closer to better opportunities for professional roles on stage and screen.

Sorry to all of the women and men who fell for Nicholson while watching him kill it as Lil Murda, but the man is married, and very happily so. He regularly posts pictures with his beautiful wife, Nafeesha, on his social media platforms, and she seems to be very supportive of his career, often sharing and promoting her husband’s work (that’s truly couple goals if I’ve ever seen ’em!). Nicholson is also the proud father of a nine year-old son, who he also posts about often on social media. So yep, the actor is very married, and we wish him and his lovely family the best!
