The White House Falsely Claims That ‘Paw Patrol’ Was Cancelled

On Friday, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany falsely claimed that the animated children’s show Paw Patrol has been cancelled, referring to the series as an unfortunate victim of unchecked “liberal cancel culture.” For some kids, this would indeed be ruff news. Luckily for them, the statement carries zero validity.

The Nickelodeon show is about an elite group of search-and-rescue dogs with each animal having a different specialization. One protects construction sites, one a firefighter, one specializing in underwater rescues, and a German Shepard who works as a police K-9. The series came under fire in June after George Floyd was brutally murdered at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.

According to Consequence of Sound, some social media users called for Paw Patrol to end in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, although some were just joking around. This led to a misinterpreted article in The New York Times called “The Protests Come For Paw Patrol,” which placed the satirical tweets within the context of the ongoing protests for racial justice.

After the piece was published, some right-wing influencers, including Eric Trump, twisted the headline in an effort to paint Black Lives Matter protesters as insane. Now, the lie has made it all the way to an official White House press briefing.

On Friday, McEnany said that President Trump was “appalled” by the cancellation, which actually never happened.

“He’s also appalled by cancel culture and cancel culture specifically as it pertains to cops. We saw a few weeks ago that Paw Patrol, a cartoon about cops, was canceled,” she stated. “The show Cops was canceled. Live PD was canceled. LEGO halted the sales of their LEGO city police station. It’s unfortunate.”

Cops and Live PD were, in fact, cancelled after the murder of George Floyd, however LEGO has by no means halted sales of police toys, instead merely stopped advertising them as protests continue to rage across the nation.

This latest attack on cancel culture is a mere strategy by the President to paint any left-minded individual as an intolerant anarchist in an attempt to win votes away from 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidate Joe Biden, causing further division in the United States and often aggression by both sides.

As for “cancel culture” being a real thing, there have been examples to support the reality of it, and both sides must ponder whether censorship is the appropriate response to racial injustice prior to taking an irreversible action.
