Star-Studded ‘Princess Bride’ Remake Coming From Quibi

A Princess Bride remake coming to Quibi? Inconceivable! The cult classic 80s rom-com is getting its very own recreation on the new streaming app, Entertainment Weekly reports, and it’s packed with stars — even a couple of the original cast and crew members make an appearance.

The Princess Bride remake coming to Quibi was filmed totally in quarantine, with stars recording their own scenes from home using just their phones.  Jason Reitman, who directed Junocame up with the idea in March.

“I just woke up one of the first mornings, I think like most people did, feeling as though, All right, I need to be able to do something of value,” he told Vanity Fair. “I just thought, Can we remake an entire movie at home? … I just started reaching out to actors I knew, saying, ‘Is this something you’d want to do?’ And the response was kind of immediate and fast. It was like, ‘Oh—that sounds like fun.‘”

The celebrities who created the Princess Bride for Quibi will trade off playing some of the film’s most famous roles. The cast list includes Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, Common and Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, Hugh Jackman, Andy Serkis, Keegan-Michael Key, Elijah Wood, Beanie Feldstein, Jack Black, Diego Luna, Taika Waititi, Jon Hamm, Zazie Beetz, Patton Oswalt and Josh Gad.

Original Princess Bride director Rob Reiner will make an appearance, as well as Fred Savage, who will reappear as the grandson listening to the story. The full list of names has not been released yet, so expect to see some surprise faces, too.

Because it’s hard to find a Rodent of Unusual Size during a global pandemic, the reboot will use a corgi in its place. Other substitutes from the film include Legos as stunt doubles and stuffed animals in place of onlookers.

Quibi’s Princess Bride reboot looks goofy and charming, but it’s all for a good cause. Reitman’s project will benefit chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen charity, which provides meals to those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Princess Bride remake premieres on Quibi June 29, and the app will roll out new episodes over the course of two weeks.
