‘Fuller House’ on Netflix: Was the John Stamos Netflix Freak Out Real?

Thanks to the internet, April Fools’ Day pranks live on well past their expiration date (which, to be clear, is the five minutes after they’re posted; April Fools’ Day pranks suck, y’all!). That’s definitely the case with the ol’ John Stamos Netflix Freak Out, a viral clip of the man/myth/legend throwing a destructive hissy fit at the Netflix offices from way back in 2016. With the final season of Fuller House now available to stream on Netflix, it’s no wonder why people are thinking back to a few years ago and going, “Wait, is this memory I have of iPhone footage of The Stamos breaking shit in the Netflix lobby real or a total Berenstein/Berenstain mass mis-remembering?”

The truth is—it happened! John Stamos did go to the Netflix offices and absolutely lose his mind, screaming about his reputation and then slinging slurs at all of the Emmys proudly displayed in the Netflix lobby. You can find the video on eBaum’s World (talk about a blast from the past) and also make sure to peep the upload date: April 1, 2016. The freakout was posted on the same day as a big ol’ Netflix prank, a promo for a documentary about John Stamos starring John Stamos.

The John Stamos freak out video was, presumably, the other half of this April Fools’ prank. How dare Netflix use his image as part of a silly April Fools’ video—one that he… was clearly aware of and totally in on the joke. That’s why the freak out is a joke! Why would Stamos knowingly take part in a promo that you know was pitched to him as a prank video and then freak out about him…. taking part in a prank video? It’s a fake freak out.

You know how else you can tell it’s a fake freak out? The Stamos posted the video again to his own Twitter page on April 1, 2019 and called it his response to Netflix cancelling Fuller House.

Stamos was in on the joke the whole time. So now that this mystery has been solved, you can get back to enjoying the final season of Fuller House.
