‘Fuller House’s’ Final Season Recreates an Iconic ‘Full House’ Moment

Fuller House fans are keenly aware that the Netflix sitcom loves a callback. As the continuation of a show with 8 full seasons of continuity to reference and characters to revisit, there’s not an episode of Fuller House that goes by without a wink—or a full-blown glare—at the past. It’s part of the fun of the show! With the latest batch of episodes serving as the show’s series finale, you better believe there are references aplenty to Full House in every single episode.

That is particularly true of “Cold Turkey,” the franchise’s final Thanksgiving episode (for now?). The episode doesn’t just feature some familiar faces, although it does include the return of Danny (Bob Saget), Jesse (John Stamos), and Joey (Dave Coulier), as well as a plot that’s kinda similar to the time Jesse, Stephanie, and Michelle got locked in a gas station on Michelle’s birthday. “Cold Turkey” outdoes every Easter egg to the show’s past by redoing one of the biggest, most memorable, most shocking stunts in the original series’ entire run. SPOILER ALERT, BTW!

That moment? Stephanie Judith Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) backing Joey’s vintage car through the kitchen, causing total chaos. We really shoulda seen it coming, y’know? Fuller House has referenced this moment over and over again, including as recently as Season 5’s midseason premiere episode when resident cuckoos Kimmy and Jimmy point out all the wacky stuff that always went on next door to them. And as soon as Joey showed up in an identical retro ride at the beginning of “Cold Turkey,” there was no way that car was staying parked in the backyard for long.

So, how did this lightning strike twice? Back in Full House’s Season 3 episode “Honey, I Broke the House,” Stephanie was goofing off in Joey’s car and accidentally put it in reverse thinking the “R” stood for “radio.” In Fuller House, Stephanie—now 30 years older—gets behind the wheel of Joey’s car because she wants to leave the house in a huff and that’s the only car around. Then fate takes the wheel…

The moment is so iconic, you know Fuller House had no choice but to pretty much recreate it nearly shot for shot and line for line. All the major beats are hit as Joey’s car hits the house, and it’s a true treat for longtime fans of the series. How closely does the Fuller House moment mirror the Full House moment? See for yourself, with these shots of the same moments from Fuller House and Full House presented one after the other!

Whoah baby! What attention to detail! Don’t worry about the literal homewrecking, though, because just like in Full House, the kitchen’s totally back to normal with no sign of damage in the very next episode. Such is the miracle work performed by unseen sitcom contractors!
