Earlier this morning, the Steve Carell/Greg Daniels comedy Space Force had its official Netflix launch. Despite mixed reviews, the series boasts an undeniably talented cast, including exceptional performances from John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Tawny Newsome, and Jimmy O. Yang. If you’re one of the many fans who’ve already gone full streaming supersonic on the series (devouring all ten episodes), you may find yourself asking one important question: Will there be a Space Force Season 2?
For the past 24 hours we’ve been in the lab crunching numbers, compiling data, and intensely looking at various charts while saying things like “hmm… interesting” to help answer that very question. Will Space Force return for a second season? Here’s everything we know.
HAS SPACE FORCE BEEN RENEWED FOR SEASON 2?
Nope, but that’s completely normal. The series only premiered May 29, 2020 on Netflix.
WILL THERE BE A SPACE FORCE SEASON 2 ON NETFLIX?
I’d normally say that a Space Force renewal is somewhere between a 95-99% certainty, but the middling reviews have slightly hindered the show’s chances for a second season. Without spoiling the finale, the season ends on multiple cliffhangers and Carell recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about what he’d like to see in Season 2. Both of those factors bode very well for another season.
At the end of the day this is a star-studded Steve Carell/Greg Daniels comedy, so Netflix is most likely in for a Season 2, ratings/critical acclaim be damned. As it stands right now, I’d say there’s an 85-90% chance Space Force is renewed for a second season.
WHEN WILL SPACE FORCE SEASON 2 ARRIVE ON NETFLIX?
Even if Netflix renews Space Force for a second season, it’s going to be a while before you see new episodes drop on the streamer. On top of the normal delay between Seasons 1 and 2, the cast is in high demand, which complicates the production schedule, and Greg Daniels will be working on Season 2 of his Amazon comedy Upload.
If Space Force returns for round two (which it most likely will), our best guess is that Season 2 will premiere in the fall of 2021.
