‘The Crown’ Stars Matt Smith and Claire Foy to Reunite in Livestream Play

Two stars from Netflix‘s The Crown are having a royal reunion live onstage. Matt Smith (Prince Philip) and Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth) may have ended their run on the historical drama, but they’re joining together again for a socially-distant performance of a hit play live from London, CNN reports.

Next month, Smith and Foy will reunite in Duncan Macmillan’s play “Lungs”, directed by Matthew Warchus. The actors will star as a couple navigating the troubles of life together and deciding if they should raise a child in a crumbling world. Their performances will be streamed live for audiences from the Old Vic theater, which has been closed for the past few months due to the coronavirus.

In 2019, Smith and Foy performed “Lungs” at the Old Vic in a sold-out run. This time, the play will look a little different than it did last year — the actors will be using the two-meter rule to avoid close contact and follow social distancing guidelines. Smith and Foy are returning to the Old Vic after scheduled performances of “Lungs” were canceled at Brooklyn’s BAM this spring due to the coronavirus pandemic.

To replicate the capacity of the theater, up to 1,000 people will be able to stream each performance of “Lungs”. Tickets will cost the usual price, between £10-65 ($12-80), and there will be both matinee and evening performances available to stream. Tickets are not yet on sale for the performances.

The “Lungs” performances are the first in a new series, Old Vic: In Camera, that will also include readings of plays. “This series is both an exciting creative experiment and also crucial in igniting the box office now all our usual channels of revenue have been entirely wiped out and we fight to preserve this beloved theatre for our audiences, surrounding schools and communities, staff, crew, and the myriad of writers, performers and creatives that work with us,” the Old Vic said in a statement.
