Dylan O’Brien’s Andrew Garfield in ‘The Social Network’ Impression Is So Good It’s Scary

Actors, they’re just like us—bored in quarantine, watching The Social Network on Netflix, and then filming and tweeting out spot-on, Oscar-worthy impressions of Andrew Garfield.

Wait, that last one might just be Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien, who recreated the climactic scene from the Oscar-winning 2010 film as a part of Parenthood actor Sarah Ramos’s recent recreation videos. Ramos took on the roles of Mark Zuckerberg and Sean Parker—aka Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake in the movie—while O’Brien played the part of Eduardo Saverin, aka Andrew Garfield.

Look. The Social Network is one of my favorite movies all time. I have watched it more than 20 times, including twice since it came on Netflix last month. I know nearly every line, music cue, and camera angle by heart. So when I say Dylan O’Brien nails his Andrew-Garfield-in-The-Social-Network impression in this video? I mean that Dylan O’Brien nails his Andrew-Garfield-in-The-Social-Network impression.

Just watch this scene below and you’ll see what I mean. You know the one. The part that comes right after Eduardo finds out that Mark—the person Eduardo thought was his best friend—diluted his Facebook shares down to .03 percent, and essentially screwed him out of a company he helped build from the ground up. (Ha, ha, it’s fine, I’m crying.)

The voice! The inflection! The tears! The gestures! The physicality!

It’s all there, man. You can tell that O’Brien is in it. He’s not just doing a scene from a great movie—he has fully become the business end of a company who made a bad business deal with his own company. You can see the sting betrayal shimmering in his eyes. You can feel the emotional weight of him finally, finally ending this years-long friendship with a genius who never truly respected him. And yes, he is blaming Mark, that pretentious douchebag.

What’s so truly impressive about O’Brien’s impression is that the accent that Garfield did in The Social Network was a weirdly specific one. Garfield, a British actor, was doing an American accent with just a hint of Brazilian. (That Garfield was cast as Saverin, a Brazilian immigrant, is a whole other thing.) There were so many layers to that voice, and yet, somehow, O’Brien replicates it verbatim. I would say that we should give O’Brien the Oscar for this, but I’m still salty that Garfield never got his much-deserved Best Supporting nomination. Someone call David Fincher and get those two in a movie together, stat.

Credit too, to Ramos, for her Eisenberg and Timberlake impressions, as well as for orchestrating this entire thing.
