Billy Eichner Offers to Step in as Batwoman After Ruby Rose’s Exit

Ruby Rose may be leaving Batwoman, but two stars have already offered to step into her skintight suit. This week, American Horror Story alum Billy Eichner and Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Stephanie Beatriz both volunteered to replace Rose in The CW drama, albeit for very different reasons. While Eichner believes his expert cleaning abilities make him qualified for the role, Beatriz said she already has Kate Kane’s look down: “Legit did dye my hair red last month,” she tweeted. Your move, Eichner.

On Tuesday, Rose stunned fans when she announced that she would be leaving The CW’s Batwoman after just one season. “I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” she said in a statement. “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”

The CW and Warner Bros. have promised that Rose’s role will be recast with another LGBT actor — an essential part of Kate Kane/Batwoman’s identity — but because of the coronavirus pandemic, they have time to figure it out. Batwoman ended its first season on May 17, and it is not expected to return until 2021.

In the meantime, Eichner and Beatriz have taken to Twitter to throw their hat in the ring. “Just finished cleaning my apt again so…. can I play Batwoman,” tweeted Eichner on Tuesday night. He followed up a few hours later with a second tweet (homeboy had a busy night!): “Any update on this?” wrote the actor. “Just disinfected the soles of my shoes, would love to play Batwoman now if possible, thx.”

Beatriz wasn’t quite as brazen, but her post did send Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans into a frenzy. “*reads everything about Batwoman,” she wrote on Tuesday night, just a few hours after Rose’s departure was announced. When someone urged her to “go method” for the role, Beatriz insisted that with her freshly-dyed hair, she’s already halfway there.

With nothing but time on their hands, Eichner and Beatriz have plenty of opportunities to continue to lobby Warner Bros. Will they take out billboards outside the WB lot? Project the Bat Signal above the Los Angeles skyline? The options are endless.
