Michael Moore’s ‘Planet of the Humans’ Now Free to Watch on Youtube

Michael Moore is back with his latest documentary, and it’s a sobering take on climate change and our future. If you’re looking for a film to watch on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, Moore just released the new project, Planet of the Humans, for free on his Michael Moore Youtube channel. Moore serves as executive producer on the climate change documentary, which is directed by filmmaker and environmentalist Jeff Gibbs (Bowling for Columbine).

Moore announced on Twitter this morning that he’d be releasing the film to the public on the eve of Earth Day. “SURPRISE! I’m bringing you a brand new feature film, right now, just finished, and just posted minutes ago on my YouTube channel!” he posted.

Planet of the Humans examines our approach to the growing climate crisis and how our government is handling massive environmental issues. “We are losing the battle to stop climate change on planet earth because we are following leaders who have taken us down the wrong road — selling out the green movement to wealthy interests and corporate America,” says the film’s description on Moore’s Youtube channel. “This film is the wake-up call to the reality we are afraid to face: that in the midst of a human-caused extinction event, the environmental movement’s answer is to push for techno-fixes and band-aids. It’s too little, too late.”

The documentary features appearances from Al Gore, Bill McKibben, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Elon Musk and the Koch brothers, along with different environmental groups, politicians and activists. The soundtrack includes music from Radiohead, King Crimson and more artists.

If you’re in the mood for an uplifting, optimistic look at the future of our planet, this film isn’t it. It’s not all strictly doom and gloom, though. Moore suggests that one change might be able to save us: “getting a grip on our out-of-control human presence and consumption.” To give viewers more information and answer questions, Moore and Gibbs will be hosting a live talk and Q&A tomorrow night (April 22nd ) at 10/9c on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

Planet of the Humans is free to watch on Youtube for the next 30 days. You can watch on Moore’s channel, or click play on the video above to stream.
