Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Live ‘Fleabag’ Performance Will Stream on Amazon

Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s live performance of Fleabag is coming to a screen near you. Beginning this week, the live Fleabag show will be available to stream online for a small fee in order to raise money for COVID-19 charities around the globe. Waller-Bridge’s theater performance, which is already available for users in the U.K. and Ireland, will hit Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. on Friday, April 10.

According to Deadline, Waller-Bridge has opened up her Fleabag live performance to steamers everywhere in order to raise money for those affected by the novel coronavirus. Like Fleabag itself, the live show — which was recorded at the Wyndham Theater in London in 2019 — will first stream for British and Irish viewers via Soho Theatre’s On Demand streaming site beginning today, Monday, April 6. On Friday, Fleabag live will debut on Amazon Prime Video for U.S. viewers, as well as users in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

Access to Fleabag live will cost £4 or $5, and all proceeds will be distributed to charities including The National Emergencies Trust, NHS Charities Together, and Acting For Others. Deadline reports that streaming fees will also go to the Fleabag Support Fund, a new organization that will offer grants to freelancers working in the U.K. theater industry. The nonprofit has already collected £356,000 thanks to a large donation from Waller-Bridge herself.

“I hope this filmed performance of Fleabag can help raise money while providing a little theatrical entertainment in these isolated times,” Waller-Bridge said in a statement. “All money raised will support the people throughout our society who are fighting for us on the frontlines and those financially devastated by the crisis, including those in the theatre community. Thank you in advance to those who donate. Now go get into bed with Fleabag. It’s for charity.”

Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag originally began as a one-woman theater show before it was picked up by BBC Three and Amazon. After airing a critically-acclaimed first season in 2016, the comedy returned with a tour de force sophomore run in 2019 that catapulted Waller-Bridge into the national spotlight. Fleabag Season 2 went on to win practically every award out there, including the Emmy for Best Comedy and Best Actress – Comedy, the BAFTA for Best Female Comedy Performance, and multiple Golden Globes.

If you haven’t watched Fleabag, there’s really no better way to spend your time in self-quarantine. Both seasons are now streaming on Prime Video.
