Shark Week Is Back This Weekend For A 48-Hour Marathon on Discovery

The Discovery Channel is bringing the people what they need: Shark Week in April, months earlier than the usual July programming. The marine marathon will be condensed into one weekend full of great whites, hammerheads and makos, all starting this Saturday (April 4) on the Discovery Channel.

Although “Shark Week In A Weekend” won’t feature new, original programming, it will be made up of fan favorite episodes so you can journey back to Shark Weeks past, the network explained in a March 30 press release. “The pop culture phenomenon will take viewers to oceans around the world with a team of renowned marine biologists and science institutions to deliver groundbreaking shark stories incorporating innovative research technology and revealing compelling insight into the mysterious world of sharks,” Discovery promised. “From the coast of South Africa to islands in the Bahamas, Shark Week In A Weekend will bring the world to viewers at home while Shark Week talent and scientists take on some of the most daring shark experiments ever attempted.”

Shark Week In A Weekend’s schedule will also include last summer’s Discovery Channel original scripted film, Capsized: Blood In The Water, starring a stranded Josh Duhamel and many hungry sharks. Bob the Shark from Discovery’s Shark After Dark series will pop in to this weekend’s marathon with an update, and he chimed in to give his own statement as part of yesterday’s press release. “I’m a shark. And sharks fear nothing,” he said. “After a few weeks of home-isolation with my family, I stand corrected.” Hmm, sounds familiar…

You can dive right in to Shark Week In A Weekend starting bright and early Saturday (April 4) at 9 a.m./8c with the first film up on the schedule, Shark Vortex. The day’s programming also includes Alien Sharks: Stranger Fins and Guy Fieri’s Feeding Frenzy. Sunday (April 5) kicks off with Monster Hammerhead, and the whole bloody fun weekend concludes with Naked and Afraid of Sharks. You can check out the full schedule for Shark Week In A Week on the Discovery Channel website.

Not satisfied? You can sink your teeth (jaws?) into a whole Sharknado marathon this weekend on SYFY Network. All six cult-favorite movies are airing back-to-back starting at 8 a.m./7c this Sunday (April 5). That’s 16 whole hours of Sharknado, so buckle up. The movies will all be played in chronological order, and Sharknado and its sequel, Sharknado 2, will replay at 8/7c after the sixth film ends.

Catch Shark Week In A Weekend on the Discovery Channel April 4 at 9 a.m./8c and all six Sharknado films on SYFY April 5 at 8 a.m./7c.
