New Movies on Demand: ‘Dark Waters,’ ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ ‘Jojo Rabbit,’ and More

TGIF, right? After a deceptively-long week like this one (is it just us, or does the week after a long weekend always go at a snail’s pace?), there is nothing we would rather do than to kick back on the sofa and zone out until the Sunday scaries roll around. And what better thing is there to zone out to than movies? Whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu or your cable’s on demand service, the movies that are out this weekend will keep you dialed out for as long as you want.

This weekend’s lineup has something for everyone. If you are someone who enjoys watching people kick butt while you sit on yours, then you’re in luck because Charlie’s Angels is now available for purchase on VOD. Spearheaded by director Elizabeth Banks and featuring a stellar cast including Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and more, this reboot of the iconic series-turned-movie is taking the franchise into the new generation. But if you are in the mood for a good drama, look no further than Dark Waters. Based on a shockingly-true story, this thriller follows an attorney (Mark Ruffalo) who takes on the case of a lifetime when he uncovers a dark secret that connects a growing number of unexplained deaths to one of the largest companies on Earth. But will cracking this case get him killed in the process? Only one way to find out!

Curious about what else is out there? Check out what other thrillers, documentaries and comedies you can buy or rent this week.

Charlie’s Angels

Good morning, Charlie! The next generation of Charlie’s Angels is finally taking flight thanks to the brilliant mind of Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect). Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska team up in this kickass girl-power film as the three femme Fatales working for the elusive Charles Townsend and flawlessly execute his myriad of missions. But their biggest job is yet to come when a revolutionary sustainable energy tool falls into the wrong hands. It is up to Jane, Sabina and newbie Elena to retrieve the technology before it can be turned into a weapon of mass destruction.

Jojo Rabbit

We are not even sure how to describe this Award-winning movie other than that it is an undeniable hit! From the quirky genius that is Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) comes Jojo Rabbit: a satire about a young boy living in WWII Germany with his mother (played by Scarlett Johansson). A social outcast who is further ostracized during a Hitler youth training accident, Jojo finds companionship in his imaginary friend: none other than Adolf Hitler (Waititi). But when he discovers that his mother has been hiding a Jewish girl in their attic, this young zealot must confront his blind nationalism with his growing affinity for the girl. Also starring Rebel Wilson, Sam Rockwell, Stephen Merchant and more, Jojo Rabbit is a must-see film; and now you can rent it on demand!

The Time Traveler’s Wife

Who doesn’t love a good romance film? Based on Audrey Niffenegger’s 2003 novel, The Time Traveler’s Wife tells the story of a man and woman who fall in love and have a life together despite the most polarizing of circumstances. This sappy film centers on Henry (Eric Bana), a Chicago librarian who has a paranormal disorder that causes him to randomly time travel. But no matter what time he jumps to, he finds himself inexplicably drawn to a young girl named Clare, with whom he falls in love as she grows up into a beautiful woman (played by Rachel McAdams). But although these two people are hopelessly in love, Henry’s uncontrollable disorder puts tension on the relationship and (obviously) makes it difficult to live a life together— let alone start a family! The Time Traveler’s Wife is no record-shattering, emotionally-exhausting flick, but this romance film is perfect if you are jonesing for a good love story.
