‘Cheer’ Star Jerry Learned About Breast Pumping from Greta Gerwig on the Oscars Red Carpet

There’s no doubt that Netflix’s Cheer is the breakout hit of winter 2020, and Cheer‘s biggest star is the effervescently charming Jerry Harris. Everyone from Outlander star Sam Heughan to Chrissy Teigen has been obsessing over Jerry and his Navarro College Cheer castmates on social media, and now Jerry’s officially taken over Hollywood. The King of Mat Talk interviewed celebrities for The Ellen Show on the Oscars red carpet and got the likes of Brad Pitt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Billie Eillish, Laura Dern, Greta Gerwig, and Regina King to fawn over him.

While many of the Hollywood heavyweights Jerry interviewed recognized him, some were more excited than others. Laura Dern insisted on giving Jerry her own little cheer, telling him, “You got this! You can do this, Jerry!” and gushing that her own daughter, Jaya Harper, was giving Dern her own version of Jerry’s “Mat Talk” on Oscars Sunday.

However, the biggest and funniest reaction belonged to Little Women writer and director Greta Gerwig. She freaked out and told Jerry that she watches Cheer every night while “pumping.” After Gerwig and partner Noah Baumbach left, Jerry sheepishly asked producers what that meant and blushed when he learned it meant she watches Cheer while pumping milk for her infant son.

“That’s insane. I never heard [that]. That’s definitely a first,” Jerry said.

Check out the extended cut of Jerry’s big Hollywood moment in the clip above, including the moment where Ellen DeGeneres reveals that Shutterfly wanted to gift the Cheer star $10,000.
