While Cats (2019) is arguably the biggest movie event of the year, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker—opening in theaters this Thursday—is a close second. It’s the final (ish) Star Wars film—except for all those Star Wars films that Disney has in the docket, including a whole new trilogy from director Rian Johnson.
Still, The Rise of Skywalker will be the end of the story for Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren (aka Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver) characters we’ve known and loved since 2015’s The Force Awakens. If you’ve already bought your ticket for The Rise of Skywalker, now would be a really good time to catch up on the trilogy. And if you only have time for one, better to make it the second film, aka Star Wars: The Last Jedi. My suggestion before you watch? Tune out the discourse. Star Wars fans love to complain about everything, but The Last Jedi deserved to be watched without all that baggage. I mean, Laura Dern is in it! C’mon!
