I’m sure you’ve heard that Chris Evans wears a sweater in Knives Out, Rian Johnson’s whodunnit murder mystery film that is now playing in theaters. A lot of other things happened in that film, too—several awards-worthy performances, an intricate and satisfying plot, a devastating critique of classism in America—but the driving narrative surrounding the film has primarily concerned that sweater, worn for about five minutes by an extremely well-lit Chris Evans.
Not to brag, but that’s pretty much thanks to me, a humble little film reporter who saw an early screening of Knives Out and witnessed the purest of pure thirst for Chris Evans in that sweater when the woman seated next to me whispered, ever so tenderly, “Sweater.” Naturally, the second the film ended I exploited said thirst for my compulsory insufferable “I saw this movie early” media Twitter brag.
Don’t worry, it all worked out: The sweater whisperer—Mashable Culture Reporter Nicole Gallucci—came forward, and we’re now officially Twitter friends, forever bonded by our fleeting internet fame.
Nicole was right, of course: The sweater that Chris Evans wears in Knives Out is exceedingly good. It’s of cable knit variety, cream-colored, and though it looks like it was probably expensive, it’s ever so slightly worn down. It looks like the type of sweater Chris Evans might wear whilst he hands you a steaming cup of hot cocoa, before settling down on the couch to cuddle and watch your favorite Christmas movie.
Over 50,000 of you agreed that this is a very good sweater—so many so that the Hollywood Reporter interviewed costume designer Jenny Eagan about it, Extra asked Evans about the sweater on the red carpet, and hashtag, #ChrisEvansInASweater, was born. How does it make me feel that a tweet I wrote in 30 seconds received exponentially more attention than any of the interviews or reported features I spent months on? Honestly, delighted.
As it turns out, the one thing that can bring together over 50,000 people on Twitter without one single iota of negativity in my mentions is Chris Evans in a very soft-looking cable knit sweater. I think that’s beautiful. And I am nothing if not a slave to the content machine, so I figured: Why not give the people what they want? Knives Out is hardly the only role where Evans has worn a sweater, though, I admit, it is the role with the most high-quality sweater to date. Being the diligent culture journalist that I am, I found 10 more films you can watch that feature Chris Evans in a sweater. You’re welcome, world.
'Gifted' (2017)

If you clicked on this article, I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you to watch Gifted, the 2017 film where Chris Evans not only played the hottest surrogate father figure ever but also had him make out with the equally hot Jenny Slate. Director Marc Webb also blessed us with a scene of Evans in a soft, navy blue sweater. It doesn’t quite live up to the quality of the Knives Out cable-knit, but it comes pretty close.
'Snowpiercer' (2017)

If you’re a Chris Evans fan and you haven’t yet seen Snowpiercer, get yourself over to Netflix ASAP. Director Bong Joon-ho—who also directed one of the best films of 2019, Parasite—put Chris Evans in a stretch-out, tattered sweater that parallels his character’s struggle as a lower-class passenger on a train carrying the only humans surviving in a post-climate change apocalypse. It’s not quite the thirst-trap sweater that is the Knives Out sweater, but it’s a sweater that tells a story. Also, it’s a really good movie.
'Avengers: Endgame' (2019)
![avengers-endgame-sweater](https://cdn.statically.io/img/decider.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/avengers-endgame-sweater.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=645)
Is that a sweater or a long-sleeve shirt that Captain America is wearing when he runs out to meet the spaceship carrying Tony Stark and Nebula back to earth? Personally, I choose to believe it’s a sweater. And of course, though a henley is not technically a sweater, I can’t neglect to mention this iconic Steve Rogers look. Truly Avengers: Endgame gave us some great cozy Chris Evans looks, and it’s now streaming on Disney+!
'Captain America: Civil War' (2016)
![sweater-civil-war](https://cdn.statically.io/img/decider.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/sweater-civil-war.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=645)
Steve Rogers wears another (or maybe it’s the same one?) simple but classy black sweater in Captain America: Civil War, in the scene where the Avengers debate the possibility of signing the Sokovia Accords. This time, I’m pretty sure it is a sweater because I adjusted the brightness and zoomed in on the material in Photoshop. This is what real journalism looks like, people!
'Not Another Teen Movie' (2001)
![NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE, Mia Kirshner, Chris Evans, 2001](https://cdn.statically.io/img/decider.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/not-another-teen-movie.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=643)
Let’s get some classic Evans on this list, shall we? Shout-out to this V-neck that Evans wore in 2001’s Not Another Teen Movie, in the scene where his own sister hits on him. He may be a baby, but he still fills out the sweater quite nicely.
'The Perfect Score' (2004)

You may have forgotten about this 2004 teen comedy, and for good reason: It’s really not very good. However, Chris Evans—who plays a high school student willing to go to any length to get a good SAT score—wears not one but two excellent sweaters in this film, including this bulky and charming, olive-green stripey number. Fun fact: Scarlett Johansson also stars in this film, so it’s basically an Avengers high school AU fanfiction.
'What's Your Number' (2011)
![WHAT'S YOUR NUMBER?, Chris Evans, 2011. ph: Claire Folger/TM and ©Copyright Twentieth Century Fox Fi](https://cdn.statically.io/img/decider.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/chris-evans-whats-your-number.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=645)
Had he not been cast as Captain America, I suspect we would have seen Chris Evans in a lot more romantic comedies like What’s Your Number? Luckily, we at least managed to get this one with Evans starring opposite Anna Faris, and we even got several scenes with him in a very cozy-looking zip-up sweatshirt.
'Push' (2009)

I spent a long time zooming in on pictures of Chris Evans as Nick Gant in the 2009 superhero film Push trying to decide whether the top he was wearing counted as a shirt or a sweater. Then I thought: “What am I doing?” Why would I deprive the public of the outline of Chris Evans’s pecs, which cannot be contained by two layers of clothing? Sweater or not, this is the content you people are here for, and I’ll be damned if I don’t provide it to you.
'Fantastic Four' (2005)
![FANTASTIC FOUR, Chris Evans, Maria Menounos, 2005, TM & Copyright (c) 20th Century Fox Film Corp. Al](https://cdn.statically.io/img/decider.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/fantastic-four-1.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=645)
Look, is Johnny Storm’s turtleneck zip-up in the 2005 Fantastic Four my favorite Chris Evans sweater? Not really. Forgive me, Chris, but firetruck red isn’t really your color. But it is still Chris Evans in a Sweater, and as I think we all know by now, that’s never a bad thing.
'The Losers' (2010)
![THE LOSERS, from left: Columbus Short, Chris Evans, Oscar Jaenada, Idris Elba, 2010. Ph: John Bramle](https://cdn.statically.io/img/decider.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/the-losers.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=645)
I once again ran into the sweater vs. shirt conundrum when faced with this still of Chris Evans in The Losers, where, for once, he played the nerdy computer hacker rather than the jock. But, as you may have noticed, this sweater and/or shirt features two AT-AT Walkers from Star Wars having sex. Clearly, I couldn’t not include it.
