Christian Bale Shares Dick Cheney’s Review of ‘Vice’: “He’s a D*ck”

Christian Bale may won a Golden Globe for his performance in Vice, but Dick Cheney still isn’t impressed. This week, Bale told Yahoo Entertainment that he did receive a secondhand review from the former vice president, and it was anything but glowing. While Cheney may think that Bale is “a dick” for portraying him in a negative light, the actor had a good laugh about the double entendre. “At least he’s got a sense of humor about it,” joked Bale.

This week, Yahoo’s Kevin Polowy sat down with Bale and his Ford v Ferrari co-star Matt Damon to discuss their new film, but things quickly turned to 2018 awards contender (and winner) Vice. “Do you think Dick Cheney ever saw Vice?” asked Polowy. “I don’t know if he ever did,” replied Bale, before adding, “He did pass along a message to me.”

After some light prodding, the actor explained that Cheney passed along his message “through [his] son’s school” (okay dude). “One of the moms was at a party that he was at, and she said, ‘Oh, I’m going to be seeing Christian tomorrow, you have anything to say to him?'” recalled Bale. “And he said, ‘Tell him he’s a dick.'”

“I went, ‘Oh, at least he’s got a sense of humor,'” continued Bale. “And she said, ‘No, there was no humor to that whatsoever.'”

Bale’s portrayal of Cheney isn’t exactly rosy — director Adam McKay establishes him as a power-hungry warmonger who easily manipulates President Bush — so it’s not surprising that the vice president was unhappy with the film. It’s even less surprising that he’s turned his ire directly towards Bale: after he won Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes, Bale thanked the “charisma-free asshole” (and also “Satan”) for inspiring his performance.
