This past weekend the Gardner family returned to Netflix with a whole lot more drama and even more love. But if you’re a fan of Atypical you probably only have one question on your mind. Will there be an Atypical Season 4?

Created by Robia Rashid (How I Met Your Mother, The Goldbergs), Atypical started as an examination of Sam Gardner’s life as a high school student who loves penguins and is on the autism spectrum. But as the series has evolved it has become about so much more than one family dealing with the challenges of raising an autistic child. It’s transformed into a moving and heartfelt family drama about a group of people just trying to figure out this whole “life” thing. From emotionally complicated affairs to ambitious scholarships and questions about sexuality, watching Atypical is like experiencing one big televised hug. Here’s everything you need to know about its future.

Will There Be an Atypical Season 4?

Netflix has yet to announce if there will be another season of the family dramedy. But there’s still hope.

Season 3 of the series was released on November 1, and it typically takes Netflix a couple of weeks to announce a renewal. For example even though Season 2 was released in September of 2018, it wasn’t renewed for another season until October of that year. It’s completely possible that Atypical Season 4 will be announced in the next few weeks.

When Will Atypical Season 4 Premiere?

Typically new seasons of Atypical premiere in the fall. So if there was going to be a new season about the Gardner family’s life it would likely premiere around September or October of 2020.

What Could Happen in Atypical Season 4? Atypical Season 3’s Ending Explained

Season 3 concluded with a happy ending for everyone. After falling out with his best friend Zahid (Nik Dodani) and breaking up his wedding with the monstrous Gretchen (Allie Rae Treharne), our hero and his bestie decided to take their relationship to the next level. Sam (Keir Gilchrist) and Zahid are going to become roommates. Also, Sam decided to forgive his girlfriend Paige (Jenna Boyd) for spying on him.

Meanwhile, Sam’s parents Elsa (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and Doug (Michael Rapaport) decided to give their marriage one more shot. And his sister Casey (Brigette Lundy-Paine) made two huge decisions. Not only is Casey going to give everything she’s got to pursue a track scholarship at UCLA, but she’s planning to do it while dating her longtime best friend turned girlfriend Izzie (Fivel Stewart).

If there is another season of the Netflix dramedy it will likely continue to follow Sam in college as he learns to deal with the impulsive Zahid as his roommate. Likewise, Casey will now have to balance her track ambitions with her new love life. One thing’s for sure, no matter what happens it’s going to be a fun rollercoaster.
