There are a lot of Terminator movies, and there’s about to be a sixth, thanks to Terminator: Dark Fate, which opens in theaters this Friday. According to producer and writer James Cameron, who is back with the franchise for the first time since 1991, Dark Fate is a direct sequel to the second Terminator film, aka Terminator 2: Judgment Day, while films three through five should be considered an alternate timeline.

For fans of film franchises, Terminator 2 was one of the rare cases where the sequel didn’t disappoint. In fact, many consider it to be superior to the first Terminator film, and one of the greatest sequels ever made. Even if you’ve never seen the movie, you probably know some of the classic quotes—for example, “Hasta la vista baby,” comes from the second Terminator film, not the first. In the second film, Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as the Terminator (he said he would be!), this time trying to protect the son of Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), who is being pursued by a more advanced Terminator (Robert Patrick).
