One of the most shocking and scandalous shows on Netflix is back. The Italian drama Baby, the streaming giant’s show about underaged prostitution, has returned for a Season 2. And it’s still as jaw-dropping as ever.

Set in an elite high school in Rome, Baby follows Chiara (Benedetta Porcaroli), a young, rich woman who is disenchanted with her privileged and too normal life. All of that changes when Chiara meets Ludovica (Alice Pagani), an impulsive troublemaker who’s secretly in need of money. Partially due to desperation, partially due to boredom, Ludo draws Chiara into the world of underage prostitution, and it’s as bad of an idea as it sounds.

It’s a show with a premise so perverse it seems irresponsible. But Baby‘s dirty little secret is that this teen prostitution saga is loosely based on a true story. In 2014 it was discovered that two teenage high school students from Rome’s wealthy Parioli district were selling sex. The girls used the money to buy designer clothes. The scandal resulted in the arrest of five people, including the mothers of both young women.

Overall Baby stays true to this story of underage prostitution and extreme wealth. But the series focuses more on the various ways teenage rebellion takes hold and what it means to fit in at high school. Season 1 ended with Chiara ostracized from her former friends because of her relationship with the unpredictable Ludo. Yet the two best friends hardly seemed to care. The last we saw Chiara and Ludo they were walking away hand in hand after Ludo had vowed not to sleep with people for money again.

One episode in and it’s clear that Ludo has already gone back on that promise. What sort of jaw-dropping and absolutely illegal adventures await them in Baby Season 2? Whatever they are, they’re going to create some controversy.
