‘Succession’ Season 2: Everything You Need To Know About HBO’s Best Kept Secret

I’ll admit it: I was a late convert to HBO’s aggressively funny dark dramedy Succession. I heard all the buzz and had a number of people tell me I’d love it, but I ignored the show during its initial run on HBO. Over Christmas break 2018, I finally gave in and binged all ten Season 1 episodes.

I hated it.

Just kidding. I loved it! I couldn’t get enough of the savagely acerbic Roy family. From Matthew Macfadyen’s brilliant portrayal of Shiv’s unhinged finance Tom to Kieran Culkin’s delightfully bizarre Roman Roy, I was 100% in on Succession.

With the season premiere just days away, here’s everything you need to know about Succession Season 2!

WHEN IS THE SUCCESSION SEASON 2 PREMIERE DATE? WHAT TIME IS SUCCESSION ON?

Succession Season 2 premieres Sunday, August 11 at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO.

WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE SUCCESSION SEASON 1 FINALE?

Amid Shiv and Tom’s wedding and a failed rocket launch, the most memorable moment from the finale was Kendall’s automobile accident that resulted in the death of a waiter. After yet another takeover attempt, Logan uses this tragedy to blackmail his son, thus keeping control of his company.

HBO released a helpful three-minute recap of Season 1 if you need a refresher on all the madness. You can also read about the Season 1 finale on Decider.

WHAT WILL SUCCESSION SEASON 2 BE ABOUT?

After the events of the Season 1 finale, the diabolical Roy family are united — well, as united as they can be — as they struggle to maintain control of their empire. As Kendall attempts to make amends with his father for his failed takeover attempt and Tom maneuvers for a new position within the business, Shiv takes more of an active interest in the company while trying to determine whether Logan is playing mind games regarding his successor.

Speaking of Logan, the synopsis for the Season 2 premiere notes that the mercurial patriarch receives some unvarnished advice from his banker about the next best move for Waystar Royco, as he and the rest of the family take aim at a rival media conglomerate.

ARE THERE ANY NEW ADDITIONS TO THE SUCCESSION CAST FOR SEASON 2?

It looks like the rich are about to get richer. Season 1 of Succession earned five Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Writing, and now they’re adding an Oscar-winning actress to the cast.

Back in May, it was announced that Holly Hunter would be joining the fun for Season 2. Deadline reports that the venerable actress will portray Rhea Jarrell, the politically savvy CEO of a rival media conglomerate.

Tony-winner Cherry Jones (24, Signs) will also be appearing in the new season.

HOW CAN I WATCH SUCCESSION ONLINE?

New episodes of Succession will be available to stream on HBO GO and HBO NOW beginning Sunday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET. Succession is also available to watch via Hulu and Prime Video by adding HBO to either platform. A seven-day free trial is available for new subscribers of HBO on both Hulu and Prime Video.
