Yesterday Netflix dropped the teaser trailer for Martin Scorsese’s highly-anticipated new film, The Irishman, and left cinephiles everywhere reeling from the unsettling sight of a de-aged Robert De Niro, who is 75. The film—which also stars Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel and more—has already been delayed in order to perfect the CGI process of making De Niro and his co-stars look younger, and many suspected we wouldn’t see the film until 2020. But it seems in the wake of the Cats trailer Scorsese decided it looked good enough to put out into the world. Hey, at least De Niro doesn’t have a tail!

The trailer introduced us to Frank Sheeran (De Niro), a veteran and mob hitman who looks back on his career of crime, which includes the disappearance of his friend and union organizer Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino). The film is based on Charles Brandt’s 2003 book I Heard You Paint Houses, and was adapted by screenwriter Steve Zaillian. Scorsese and his cast have been working on the film for 12 years, so needless to say, anticipation for its release is high. But when is The Irishman release date? Here’s what we know.

WHEN IS THE IRISHMAN RELEASE DATE?

The Irishman has its world premiere at New York Film Festival on September 27, 2019. After that, there will be a limited theatrical release to follow sometime in the fall of 2019.
