Megan Rapinoe Learns That “Pino” Means Pornography in the Bronx: “I Love Pino”

Since winning the World Cup almost two weeks ago, USWNT co-captain Megan Rapinoe has embarked on a massive press tour across the country, and on Thursday night, she brought the party to Showtime’s Desus & Mero. Of course, Rapinoe talked about the historic World Cup win and her feud with Trump, but it was the host’s Bronx slang lesson that really made an impression. In one of the most memorable moments of the soccer star’s tour, Desus Nice and The Kid Mero taught her what her nickname “Pinoe” (or “pino,” in the Bronx) means to them: pornography. “I love pino,” joked Rapinoe after the fact. “Longtime fan.”

Desus wasted no time before jumping in to the slang lesson. “So, you know the last four letters of your name mean something near and dear to our heart. Pino. Do you know what that is a reference to?” he asked. When Rapinoe insisted that she didn’t, Desus asked his co-host to tell her. “Adult films,” whispered Mero. “Is it?” asked Rapinoe, clearly surprised.

“Yeah, that’s what we call pornography,” said Desus. “Really, I had no idea,” replied Rapinoe. They had a feeling the California native wouldn’t know. “You can imagine the joy on our faces when we were like –” said Mero. “We have Rapinoe in the house!” interrupted Desus. Mero then began a “We want pino!” chant, and Rapinoe happily joined him. “I was like, ‘Yeah, me too!'” he laughed.

“I love pino,” said the World Cup champion. “Big fan. Longtime fan… On it since Day One.”

The discussion quickly shifted to Trump’s Twitter attacks. “Is there anything Trump could say that would make you come to the White House now?” asked Desus. “If he’s like, ‘Yo, I got mad Fillet O’Fishes on deck.'” Rapinoe laughed and insisted it wouldn’t matter. “I am a big chicken nugget fan, but — maybe like 15 major policy changes,” she said. “We can start there.”
