‘Sneaky Pete’ Canceled After Three Seasons on Amazon Prime Video

It’s the end of an era for Bryan Cranston’s Sneaky Pete. On Tuesday night, Amazon officially canceled the crime drama, which was co-created by Cranston and House alum David Shore. The cancellation comes just weeks after Sneaky Pete aired its third season, an installment that was generally well-received by critics (including our Josh Sorokach, who kindly alerted fans at the time that Season 3 begins with a literal bang).

Sneaky Pete follows a released convict named Marius (Giovanni Ribisi) who steals the identity of his cellmate, Pete Murphy, in order to avoid his past life. Marius moves to upstate New York and begins working as a bail bondsman for Pete’s estranged family, who have no idea that he’s not actually their relative. That Pete, always so sneaky! At first, Pete is able to escape his enemies from life before prison, but before long, his ghosts catch up to him. These aren’t your Casper-type ghosts: they’re vicious gangsters, one of whom happens to look a lot like Bryan Cranston. If there’s one person you don’t want hunting you down, it’s Heisenberg.

In addition to Ribisi and Cranston, Sneaky Pete boasts an all-star cast that includes Margo Martindale, Marin Ireland, Peter Gerety, Libe Barer, and Shane McRae.

Throughout its three-season run, Sneaky Pete has gone through multiple showrunners, including Shore, Graham Yost (JustifiedThe Americans), and Blake Masters (Brotherhood). Cranston has also served as an executive producer on all three seasons in addition to co-creating and starring in the drama.

Sneaky Pete was been well-received by critics since its pilot debut in August 2015 (Season 1 premiered in January 2017). The first season holds a 97% Fresh Critics Score on Rotten Tomatoes, while Seasons 2 and 3 are rated 91% and 100% Fresh, respectively (although they have too few reviews to be Certified Fresh). In his Season 3 review, Josh Sorokach described Sneaky Pete as a “silky smooth, endlessly compelling crime drama.” Continued Sorokach, “Each year, the series delivers an intricate mystery that unravels over the course of ten episodes.”

Farewell, Sneaky Pete. You and your sneaky ways will be missed.
