Woman Crush Wednesday: Kathryn Newton is The Fearless Leader We Need in ‘The Society’

It’s time for another Woman Crush Wednesday, friends. And this one’s a good one. This week we’re celebrating this truly amazing babe who’s been popping up just about everywhere. Give it up for Kathryn Newton!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Kathryn Newton

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Newton stars in our newest Netflix obsession, The Society. Her character Allie, starts off as a timid girl, who really looks up to her older sister. But after tragedy strikes, Allie takes matters into her own hands and becomes a total boss. Allie isn’t in the easiest position when she becomes the new leader of her peers, but she perseveres and always does what is right for the good of the group.

Falling in love with Newton was basically like that John Greene quote: It started off slowly, and then all at once. We were drawn to her sweet innocence at the beginning of the season and just wanted the best for her. We wanted to see her grow, fall in love, and gain the confidence she needs. But as the episodes went on, we just couldn’t picture cheering on anyone else (except Grizz, of course).

Newton is magical when she’s onscreen. She isn’t here to just say some lines and call it a day. Instead, she performs those words and makes you believe every single one of them. When she cries, you cry. When she’s mad, you best believe you’re pissed too. Allie is a character that can easily be hated but Newton makes her relatable. She breathes humanity and empathy into Allie that very few actresses can do. And all while doing that, she makes Allie grow stronger and more confident until she’s practically unrecognizable from her character in episode 1. Newton makes us understand Allie better than anyone else and we can’t help but love her for it!

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: You may know her best from starring in The Society, but that’s only a tiny chunk of Newton’s impressive resume. Before The Society, Newton appeared in films like Blockers, Ben is Back, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and even Lady Bird. You may also recognize Newton from her role in Big Little Lies as Madeline Mackenzie’s teenaged daughter Abigail. She, like many other actors and actresses, has also made her rounds on Disney Channel appearing in a few episodes of Dog with a Blog. Most recently, she’s playing Lucy Stevens in Detective Pikachu, which is in theaters now.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: If you’ve already streamed the entire first season of The Society but are craving some more of this gal, get hyped. The Season 2 premiere of Big Little Lies is coming up in just a few weeks on June 9 and our girl will be returning as the oh-so-cynical Abigail. And, of course, we’re still hoping for The Society to get picked up for a Season 2.
