If you finished Netflix’s Ted Bundy film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile and you’re looking for your next murder movie, good news: Charlie Says, a biographical drama about Charles Manson, is now playing.

Matt Smith, who you may know as the 11th Doctor on Doctor Who, stars as the notorious killer and cult leader, while Mary Harron, who helmed the 2000 psychological thriller American Psycho, directs. Harron’s American Psycho writing partner Guinevere Turner also wrote the Charlie Says script, so this is something of a reunion for the filmmakers.

The story follows a graduate student named Karlene Faith (Merritt Wever), who interviews three members of the “Manson Family”—the name given to Manson’s cult—from their cells in prison. We also get flashbacks to the cult in their prime, which consisted of 100 or so followers, mostly young women, who lived with Manson in a desert commune in California in the 1960s. The cult is perhaps most famous for murdering actress Sharon Tate, along with four friends who were visiting Tate, in her home in 1969.

Currently, Charlie Says is playing in a limited number of theaters across the United States. It opened on May 10, after premiering at the 75th Venice International Film Festival last September. However, according to Box Office Mojo, the film only opened in 39 theaters, which means unless you live in a big city like New York or Los Angeles, it’s probably not playing near you. Unfortunately, I don’t have an answer to that question. Currently, there are no plans for Charlie Says to head to Netflix. That may change someday, but your best bet to see the film would be to rent or buy it on VOD on May 17.

Is There Anything Else on Netflix About Charles Manson?

Yes! You have a few options. The Netflix original docuseries, Inside the Criminal Mind, has an episode called “Cult Leaders” that touches on Manson. The short-lived NBC period crime drama Aquarius is also streaming on Netflix, which stars David Duchovny as a detective in the 1960s who comes up against Manson (played by actor Gethin Anthony). Then there’s Episode 4 of The Seventies, from the Netflix decades docuseries, which deals with the rise of religious cults. Charlie Says may not be on Netflix, but there’s no shortage of Manson content on the streaming service.
