‘Sneaky Pete’ Season 3 Begins With a Literal BANG

Don’t worry, even Amazon understands that you probably forgot how the last season of Sneaky Pete ended. Season 2 of the streamer’s silky smooth, endlessly compelling crime drama concluded over fourteen months ago, so the latest installment begins with an extremely helpful three-minute recap of the first two seasons (this trailer is useful too). The end of Season 2 saw Julia (Marin Ireland) asking Pete’s (Giovanni Ribisi) parole officer (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) one simple question: “Hey, what’s Pete’s name?”

I’m paraphrasing because Sneaky Pete is steeped in lies, deception, and complex con-man chicanery. What Julia actually asks is “My ex-boyfriend, what’s his name?” Only Pete isn’t actually Julia’s ex-boyfriend. He’s her cousin. Only he’s not actually even her cousin. He’s a con man named Marius Josipovic.

It’s a long, complicated story, but it’s one worthy of your time.

I love Sneaky Pete. Each year, the series delivers an intricate mystery that unravels over the course of ten episodes. Season 3, which is now streaming on Prime Video, immediately begins with the ramifications of Pete’s deception as an enraged Julia attempts to run him over with her car, smashing into his vehicle as Pete (it’s easier to refer to Ribisi’s character as Pete) dives out of the way. The other shoe has officially dropped. Julia knows. But it’s what Julia does with that information that will drive the rest of the story.

The Bernhardt/Bowman family almost immediately find themselves in legal trouble, with Julia being arrested for the myriad crimes she committed in Season 2. I’ve only seen the first two episodes of Season 3, but the latest installment will seemingly focus on two big stories. First, the Season 3 trailer previews an enticing Pete/Julia caper in which the two have to work together to “con a con man.” The second plot deals with Pete reluctantly reuniting with a dangerous con artist from his past, the beguiling Lizzie (Efrat Dor), for a dangerous grift. Deadline describes the unpredictable Lizzie as “an amoral con woman with boundless skill and no moral conscience” who lives for the thrill of the day.

The two embark upon a wine-related swindle in Episode 2, but the larger con remains hazy.

In non attempted vehicular homicide happenings of the new season, Carly (the underrated Libe Barer) learns a shocking secret about her deceased parents, Taylor (Shane McRae) may find himself in trouble after an off-the-books investigation involving recurring guest star Amy Landecker goes awry, Otto and Audrey desperately try to keep the family together, and, at some point (if IMDB is to be believed, Episode 4), former Suits star Patrick J. Adams joins the fun as Stefan Kilbane, an arrogant business magnate with a deep need for revenge.

Suits and Sneaky Pete together? Are we 100% sure December 25th is still Christmas?

I have no idea how entertaining the new season of Sneaky Pete will be compared to the first two installments. This is the type of show that improves as the season-long arcs and mysteries develop. I enjoyed the first two seasons and implicitly trust the creative team to tell an engaging, crackling story. Much like you, I’ll be bingeing Season 3 this weekend.

All ten Season 3 episodes of Sneaky Pete are now streaming on Prime Video.
