Someone Great

Congrats, you’ve finally made it to the weekend! After a long work week, you deserve to kick back and relax with the best the streaming world has to offer — and boy, is it offering a lot. Over the next few days, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO are releasing dozens (maybe even hundreds) or new television shows and movies, so you may as well cancel your weekend plans now. Who needs friends when you have Netflix?

This weekend, your favorite streaming service is unveiling Gina Rodriguez’s latest project, Someone Great. Co-starring Lakeith Stanfield, DeWanda Wise, and Brittany Snow, this flick may seem like a rom-com at first, but it’s quickly revealed to be a story about friendship and self-love. After you finish Someone Great (maybe you’ll even watch it with someone great), be sure to check out Lunatics, a comedy series starring and written by Chris Lilley. If you liked Summer Heights High, you’re sure to enjoy Lilley’s latest project, which introduces viewers to six new characters, each more eccentric than the last.

But Netflix isn’t the only one dishing up new shows and movies this weekend. On Amazon, don’t miss detective drama Bosch, which returns for its fifth season today. Spike Lee’s Oscar winning drama BlackKklansman will also be available to stream on HBO this Saturday, so get ready to settle in for a movie night.

Someone Great

Netflix is kicking off its summer movie slate with Gina Rodriguez’s romantic comedy — if you believe friendship to be the greatest romance of all, that is. Rodriguez stars as Jenny, an aspiring music journalist who just landed her dream job in San Francisco. Rather than make it work long distance, Jenny’s boyfriend (Lakeith Stanfield) breaks up with her, and her friends (Brittany Snow and DeWanda Wise) are left to pick up the pieces. Someone Great deserves to be viewed with your friends, so make sure you’ve rounded up a solid crew before you check it out.

Bosch: Season 5

Bosch is back, baby! The popular cop drama returns to Amazon Prime Video today for another round of heinous murders, shady suspects, and complex backstories. In Season 5, LAPD homicide detective Bosch (Titus Welliver) continues to search for the truth about his mother’s murder, but his quest is halted when he becomes a target of a potential police investigation. As if that weren’t enough, Bosch is also investigating a murder at a Hollywood pharmacy, which he soon realizes is connected to the seedy underworld of pill mills and drug kingpins. The stakes are higher than ever in Bosch Season 5, but this detective doesn’t seem to care: no matter the situation, Bosch will never back down.

BlackKklansman

Spike Lee’s Oscar-winning drama will be available to stream on HBO this weekend. Set in 1970s Colorado Springs, BlackKklansman follows an African-American detective, Ron Stallworth, (John David Washington) and his Jewish coworker Flip Zimmerman (Adam Driver) as they infiltrate a local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. As the detectives attempt to expose the hate group, they slowly rise in the ranks, and before long, Stallworth is having regular conversations with KKK Grand Wizard David Duke (Topher Grace). BlackKklansman was celebrated as one of the best films of 2018, so if its Best Adapted Screenplay win made you curious about this timely drama, now’s the perfect time to add it to your streaming queue.
