Leslie Jones Says Forthcoming All-Male ‘Ghostbusters’ Is ‘Something Trump Would Do’

This week it was announced that director Jason Reitman will be helming a brand new Ghostbusters project that will continue where Ivan Reitman‘s 1984 original and its 1989 sequel left off, completely skipping past the female reboot from director Paul Feig. Leslie Jones, who starred in Feig’s 2016 installment, took to Twitter to express her disappointment in the planned film… while also making a slight at President Trump.

On Saturday, the comedian and SNL cast member penned a post that said, “So insulting. Like fuck us. We dint count. It’s like something trump would do. (Trump voice) ”Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge. Those women ain’t ghostbusteeeeers” ugh so annoying. Such a dick move. And I don’t give fuck I’m saying something!!”

Jones tagged her fellow Ghostbusters co-star Melissa McCarthy in the post, which was directed at Reitman. Neither Reitman nor anyone involved in the project has responded as of yet, despite the incessant backlash it has received since its initial announcement. One journalist from England has written an “open letter to Jason Reitman,” addressing the film’s lack of gender inclusivity.

Ghostbusters (2016) garnered mostly positive feedback, receiving a 74 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and grossing $229 million worldwide, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project’s progressive approach and strong female message has been the center of many reviews.

The forthcoming film, which is slated to premiere in 2020, is being written by Reitman and Gil Kenan. It does not yet have a known cast attached.
