Dave Franco Rumored As Lead For Planned Vanilla Ice Biopic ‘To The Extreme’

Dave Franco is reportedly set to star as rapper Vanilla Ice, aka Robert Matthew Van Winkle, in a planned biopic on the artist’s life and career, with a tentative title of To The Extreme. The film, which was inspired by the global success of Bohemian Rhapsody, which is now the highest-grossing biopic of all time.

According to a new production listing by a small group of individuals, Franco is attached as the lead in To The Extreme, which is named for the artist’s record-breaking debut album, which sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. “Ice Ice Baby,” which was the album’s hit single, was the first rap song to ever top the Billboard charts.

The brief logline for the film reads as follows:

From a high school dropout selling used cars in Dallas to having the first hip-hop single to top the Billboard charts with Ice Ice Baby, a young Vanilla Ice struggles with stardom, extortion attempts, and selling out as he makes music history.

According to Production Weekly, Franco’s brother James is listed as a producer while Chris Goodwin and Phil Van will pen the screenplay for the film behind Ramona Films and Endeavor Content. The project, which is in its very early stages of development, does not yet have a director attached nor additional actors.

Vanilla Ice, who has been active in his career since 1985, has not only released a number of albums to date but has starred in reality TV shows, struggled with drug abuse and has battled a number of legal issues, so there is definitely a story to tell there.

No further details on the project are available at this time.
