19 Celebrity Reactions I Need To See At The Golden Globes

This Sunday night kicks the 2019 awards season into high-gear with the Golden Globe awards airing on NBC, hosted by Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh, an emceeing match made in celebrity celebrations heaven.

And the Globes are one of the loosest (read: drunkest) shows of the season. They’re unpredictable, the pressure’s not turned up to 100, and the celebs seem to actually have a bit of fun there. Perhaps it’s because they aren’t completely worn out by the ceremonies and lunches and events they have to stop by for the next two months solid, and instead they’re rested and refreshed after their beach getaways over the holidays. They’re ready to mix and mingle and we’re ready to watch it all happen.

So in that spirit, I present a list of the celebrity reactions I need to see during this broadcast. Globes producers, please take note and direct your cameras at the right tables and faces accordingly. These are in addition to Oh’s reaction when the room erupts in applause for her hit show Killing Eve and when Samberg awkwardly reacts to a joke that goes very well or very not well. Already looking forward to both of those moments.

From the new shocked face gif the internet so desperately craves, to every single thing happening at the Black Panther table, to the selfies (so many selfies) during the commercial breaks, these are all 19 moments I need the show to deliver to me, and the internet as a whole, on Sunday night. Please and thank you.

Timothee Chalamet
ABC
    1. Timothée Chalamet doing anything. He’s nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his heartbreaking role in Beautiful Boy, but I just want to see him work that room. Eagerly mingling with his peers, laughing at jokes from the hosts, just plain radiating with excitement to be there: I want to see it all. What’s he wearing, saying, gesturing about: let’s set that #Timothee hashtag on fire.
    2. Chrissy Teigen whispering. Will she be there? Can we make sure she is? Let’s see her whisper something to the person next to her (likely John), have Twitter ask her what she was whispering, and then wait in anticipation when she happily reveals what it was. I love that game.
    3. Lady Gaga zoning out. She’ll be in attendance for her noms as Best Actress in a Drama and as part of the cast nominated for Best Motion Picture Drama for A Star is Born, and this is all in between performances for her Vegas show and living her usual Gaga life. But award shows are long. This might be her only chance to shut her brain off for a moment and I’d love for the cameras to capture that. Let her relax…until her name is called and she snaps into action, of course.
      Keri Russell
      NBC
    4. Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys kissing. Or like, at least cuddling. This is the last chance for the most talented couple in the room to be honored for their work on The Americans. The show is nominated for Best Drama series and they’re both nominated for Best Actress and Best Actor respectively. I’d like for them to win all of these, but I’d also accept a shot of them snuggling together at the table, silently letting the world know they’ve already won because they have each other. (Also, Alison Brie & Dave Franco and Emily Blunt and John Krasinski may also feel free to do PDA.)
    5. Richard Madden laughing. Does he know how? He was SO serious in Bodyguard that it earned him a Best Actor in a Drama nod, as well as one for the show, but it would be a real treat to see him lighten up and have fun IRL during the ceremony. Pop that champagne, kick back. You deserve a good time, Richard.
    6. Julia Roberts mesmerizing everyone. Bow down, room. Julia Roberts is in your presence. She’s nominated for Best Actress and also Best Drama Series for Homecoming, and she’s been the definition of a true S.T.A.R., long before we were ever counting followers. Young people, please acknowledge this fact accordingly.
      Jodie Comer in Killing Eve
      Everett Collection
    7. Jodie Comer wearing something amazing — and knowing it. Killing Eve is nominated for Best Drama Series, and while the actress behind Villanelle is not (rude, but Sandra Oh is!) I’d love to see her having just as much fun playing dress up as her character in the show does. I hope she goes with something poofy or sparkly. Grab all the attention you deserve, girl.
    8. Bill Hader paling around. Who can the cameras catch him laughing it up with? Standing in between tables and having a quick yet thoughtful conversation? Hugging a former SNL co-star/host? It has to be illegal to dislike Hader, so what surprising celeb will run over to gush to him about how much they love Barry, the HBO show he’s picked up nominations for Best Actor as well as Best Comedy?
    9. Donald Glover. In fact, maybe it can be Glover who is paling with Hader? They are up against each other for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical Series and it’s not their first, or likely, last face-off, as we saw happen last fall for the Emmys. At the very least, no Teddy Perkins BS. I want to see Glover as Glover just being Glover.
    10. Hugh Grant feeling bored. With all due to the Globes, Grant has better places to be. At home in his PJs, for one. He’s up for Best Actor in A Very English Scandal, but if he bothers to dress up and show up at the very least, that’s already a win for us all.
    11. Regina King being supportive. Don’t you feel like she would totally cheer you on? I can’t wait to see her clapping for her fellow pals at the show, whether or not she wins her noms for her roles in Netflix’s Seven Seconds and If Beale Street Could Talk.
    12. Henry Winkler hugging someone. It’s the industry’s worst kept secret that Winkler is a total teddy bear. He’s a sweetie and a softie and one of the best guys around. So who is the first celeb we’ll get a glimpse of the Best Supporting Actor for Barry hugging? It could be anyone and everyone.
      cast of Black Panther
      Everett Collection
    13. Every single thing happening at the Black Panther table. Honestly, just make the whole show about this table. Mic them all, keep the cameras fixed on their faces, it’s sure to be amazing. The film is up for Best Motion Picture Drama and while it was one of 2018’s best, getting a look at what this cool crew is up to would be probably just as entertaining as what went down in Wakanda.
    14. The three queens of The Favorite taking a pic. I need a commercial bumper shot of these three posing for a picture in their gorgeous gowns that I can then turn into the wallpaper of my phone as a reminder of their total royal status. The Favorite is up for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and all three snagged noms (Olivia Colman in best actress, Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz in Best Supporting) and I just want to continue believing they are besties. That’s all.
    15. Mahershala Ali looking SHOCKED. Everything he does is cool. Seriously: everything. He’s up for Best Supporting Actor for Green Book, which is no surprise, but I want to see him looking SHOCKED at something that goes down. With True Detective just around the corner, sure to be filled with plenty of crazy moments, the internet needs a new gif in rotation for all the can’t-believe-it-moments. Surely Ali can deliver on this.
    16. Bradley Cooper being self-deprecating. There is going to be a Bradley Cooper joke at this awards show. It’s inevitable. After that dramatic performance as Jackson in A Star is Born (and pulling double duty as director and nabbing noms for both) I want to see a joke land about him, and Bradley be a total Cooper Trooper about it. He can laugh it off with the best of them, and I can’t wait to watch it happen.

17. Henry Golding dancing. Crazy Rich Asians is nominated for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, but it’s this outtake from Golding’s other 2018 film, A Simple Favor, that proves he can totally nail both the musical and comedy aspects. In fact, let’s turn this surprise dance mob into its own film: just him moving through the choreography for 90 min. I’d like that. But just a little move here and there at the Globes is fine by me too.

Leslie Bibb at the Oscars
ABC

18. Leslie Bibb rooting for Sam Rockwell. Her boo is up for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for Vice, but she, each and every year, wins for Best Supporting Partner. 2019 should be no different.

19. Debra Messing tweeting. When she’s not too busy being nominated for Best Actress for her role as Grace Adler on Will & Grace, Messing is known for her fierce tweets. Let’s catch her firing one off during a commercial break, giving us something to enjoy on our second screen experience.
