Woman Crush Wednesday: ‘She-Ra’ Star Aimee Carrero is a Real Life Warrior Princess

It’s that time of the week again, friends. This Woman Crush Wednesday, Decider is here to praise the queen of kicking some serious booty, Aimee Carrero.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Aimee Carrero

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: In such a politically charged America, we’re glad to have She-Ra back to come to our rescue. Carrero, a Dominican-born actress, voices the mighty warrior princess and it’s a perfect match! On social media, the actress has been extremely vocal about her political standing. Most recently anticipating the midterm election, Carrero took to Instagram encouraging all her friends, family, and fans to vote. She is an advocate for anyone who chooses to use their voices for good, and does the same in her new role as She-Ra.

In She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Princess Adora becomes She-Ra, Leader of the Rebellion, after becoming the rightful owner to the Sword of Protection. The world needs a strong female voice to guide us and who better than the most powerful woman in the universe, She-Ra?

I believe women. I believe women whether they are likable or not. I believe them when they scream, when they whisper, if their voices tremble or are clear as bells. I believe them whether they tell their story before a firing squad of misogynist men or choose to keep it to themselves. I believe them when they have a Dr. in front of their names and when they don’t. I believe them if they are drunk, I believe them if they are sober. I believe them when they don’t remember perfectly and I believe them when they do. Why? Because it’s happened to me and almost every woman I know. Because I recognize the terror, the anger, the pain, the resolve, and the demand for justice in their eyes as my own.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: This seasoned actress has appeared in both quirky sitcoms and prestige dramas, so there’s no doubt you’ve seen (or heard) her at least somewhere. She starred beside Disney Channel alum Emily Osment, in the Freeform sitcom Young and Hungry. Carrero played Sofia Rodriguez, Gabi Diamond’s (Osment) strong-willed and ambitious best friend. This warrior princess also made an appearance in the second season of The Americans as Lucia, a Sandinista freedom fighter from Nicaragua. Carrero also originated the role of Princess Elena in Elena of Avalor and currently voices the teen princess in the Disney Junior animated series. In the series, young Elena saves her kingdom from an evil sorceress, and learns to rule it herself after her parents deaths (like a true princess of power would do!).

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Right now, Carrero hasn’t publicly announced any new projects, but don’t fret! She-Ra and the Princesses of Power just hit Netflix so be sure to binge that immediately.
