This mainstream supernatural hit helped cement Nicole Kidman as a legit movie star and scared up a lot of money at the box office. It also contains one of the most satisfying twists of any ghost story, and it probably hasn’t been spoiled like The Sixth Sense’s. If you’re looking for a good old-fashioned ghost story, turn of the lights and hit play on this one.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (Released 10/2)

This Tim Burton-produced classic made the smart move of incorporating two holidays into its premise, ensuring its relevance from October through December every single year. This Halloween/Christmas mash-up movie has become a classic, meaning you can probably watch your VHS or DVD copies or find it on cable at pretty much any moment. But why let others decide your fate?
