‘Will & Grace’ Cast Reveals Their Pre-Show Dancing Ritual: “All We Do is Hump”

Fans have always known that the cast of Will & Grace is close, but we didn’t know they were this close. In a group appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the cast revealed that they have a very specific pre-show ritual: they bump and grind all over the stage. That’s one way to pump up your studio audience, I guess.

When asked if they have a specific pre-show routine, Eric McCormack said, “As soon as we meet the audience, we just start dancing.” But this isn’t your typical hype dance. “We start gyrating all over each other. And feeling each other’s bodies,” Debra Messing said as a video of the cast dancing played behind them.

“When they cast this show, they cast four humpers,” said Megan Mullally. “All we do is hump each other all day long.” As the video continued to play behind them, Messing laughed, saying, “We can’t help it.”

But the dance party isn’t the Will & Grace cast’s only pre-show ritual. In addition, the cast also says a quick prayer before each taping. “We do have a ritual — it’s very theater-like because we all have a theater background,” said Sean Hayes. “Deb started it from the pilot that we all get together and do a little prayer, and we still do the prayer every single show.” The group insisted that the content of that prayer is a time-honored secret. “Nobody else knows it. It’s our private little thing,” said Mullally. “We’re taking it to our grave,” added Messing. Joked McCormack, “Please god, let this be funny.” You know, that actually wouldn’t be that bad of a prayer.

Will & Grace Season 10 premieres Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. We can’t promise that there will be grinding, but if you’re desperate to see Messing, Hayes, Mullally, and McCormack get it on, you can always attend a free taping in Los Angeles.
