The Netflix Dilemma: Can Dan Lin Make Higher-Quality Movies While Spending Less Money?
Paging all Fandlers: Adam Sandler is returning to Netflix once again. This time, Sandler is returning to his roots with 100% Fresh, his first solo comedy special in over 20 years. Netflix released the teaser trailer for 100% Fresh today, and although the promo doesn’t provide much detail, it looks like the special will feature Sandler’s signature blend of stand-up, music, and hi-jinks.
Sandler’s return to the stand-up stage comes courtesy of a few big Hollywood names. The special was directed by Steven Brill, who has worked with Sandler on Mr. Deeds, The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, and more. Oscar-nominated director Paul Thomas Anderson was also involved in filming a portion of the special. This marks the second time that Sandler and Anderson have collaborated: they previously worked together on the 2002 romantic comedy Punch-Drunk Love.
The promo doesn’t explain why Sandler and Netflix chose the title 100% Fresh, but it’s possible (and maybe even likely) that the name is inspired by the harsh treatment Sandler’s recent output has received from critics. He’s clearly not sweating it, though; after all, how many stars can boast that audiences have spent over half-a-billion hours watching them on Netflix alone? Get ready for that number to increase on Tuesday, October 23, when 100% Fresh will arrive on Netflix.
