‘Narcos’ Season 4 Trailer: Meet the Guadalajara Cartel

The first footage of Narcos Season 4, rebranded as Narcos: Mexico, is finally here. The new installment of Netflix’s drug-filled drama shifts the focus from Colombia to Mexico, where an equally vengeful cartel is looking to establish its dominance. In the promo, Netflix introduces fans to the many members of the Guadalajara Cartel, an 80s-era group led by Felix Gallardo. Gallardo’s men (and women, as the trailer suggests) are just as intense as their Narcos predecessors, so don’t expect the beloved Netflix series to get less violent any time soon.

Narcos: Mexico explores the early days of Mexican drug trafficking, when the industry was primarily made up of independent growers and dealers. But that all changes when Gallardo (Diego Luna) takes control of the Guadalajara Cartel and begins unifying dealers under his vast empire. As the Guadalajara Cartel expands its reach, DEA agent Kiki Camarena (Michael Peña) begins investigating the criminal enterprise, but he soon learns that looking too closely at the cartel has potentially deadly consequences.

Like past Narcos seasons, Narcos: Mexico explores a real-life tale of drugs, police intervention, and bloodshed. Throughout the 1980s, Gallardo and DEA agent Enrique Camarena (we have to assume that Kiki is a stand-in for Enrique) squared-off, and their contentious relationship came to a head when Gallardo captured Camarena and tortured him to death. In 1989, he was charged with Camarena’s murder and sentenced to 37 years in prison, where he still resides.

The brief promo also revealed the Narcos Season 4 premiere date. All 10 episodes are set to hit Netflix on Friday, November 16. It looks like turkey won’t be the only thing you’ll be bingeing this Thanksgiving, Narcos fans.
