If Lara Jean Covey likes it, it’s gotta be good, right? After all, she likes romance novels, cute scrunchies, and Peter Kavinsky, and there’s no denying the quality of those things. So in Netflix’s hit teen rom-com, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, when Lara Jean (played by Lana Condor) tells Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) that he has to watch Sixteen Candles, well, she’s very right about that. And now streaming that movie is easier than ever, as it’s currently available on Hulu.

While the film came out over 30 years ago, the feelings you’ll have while watching it remain the same to this day. Sixteen Candles stars Molly Ringwald, the actress you may recognize at Lee and Noah’s mom in The Kissing Booth, who was the queen of the rom-com in the ’80s. In this film from frequent collaborator John Hughes, Ringwald stars as Sam Baker, a high school student who is super bummed after her family forgets all about her 16h birthday because they were too busy planning her older sister’s wedding. How dare they! Plus, she’s in a bit of a love triangle, as she’s got a major crush on popular hottie Jake Ryan (Michael Schoeffling) while geeky freshman Ted (Anthony Michael Hall) is pining for her. I won’t tell you how it ends, but I will say there’s a reason Lara Jean loves this one so much.

If you’re a fan of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, Sixteen Candles is totally worth watching on Hulu, not just to understand the references, but because you’ll likely enjoy it a ton. And you know, it’s always good to break up your watches of the Netflix film with something new.

However, if you’re more interested in checking out Peter Kavinsky’s favorite movie, Fight Club is currently available to rent on Prime Video.
