Woman Crush Wednesday: Carrie Coon Is Breathing New Life Into ‘The Sinner’

You may recognize Carrie Coon from The Leftoversor maybe from season 3 of the FX show FargoBut if you don’t know her yet, it is about time to get yourself acquainted with this week’s Woman Crush Wednesday. She is an incredibly nuanced and talented actor who has not gotten even half the acclaim she deserves, so here’s to hoping her appearance on this season of The Sinner, which premieres tonight on USA, gets her some more well warranted kudos.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Carrie Coon

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: If you watched any of HBO’s The Leftovers, you don’t need us to tell you just how talented Coon is. Every moment she is on screen, she brings her character – and therefore the audience – to new emotional depths. Rolling Stone even called her “the best actor on television” which is quite the statement in this golden age of TV – not that we don’t wholeheartedly agree.

With season 2 of The Sinner airing tonight, we cannot wait to see her performance and how she integrates into the show. Last season starred Jessica Biel who, although staying on as an executive producer, will not be in the cast this season. This genre of gritty, creepy, emotional journeys is exactly where Coon thrives and we won’t be surprised if this season is even better than the first.

The Tony and Emmy Award-nominated actor (although it really should be winner) doesn’t have a huge role in the first episode. Her character’s mystery and ambiguity is part of the hook to get viewers excited for the rest of the season. We have no doubt she will deliver a mind-blowing performance filled with her signature ugly cry — you know, the kind of cry that you just have to emulate from your couch while watching.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Coon is perhaps most well-known for her lead role as Nora Durst in The Leftovers, and her role as Gloria in season 3 of Fargo. She has also appeared in some major motion pictures such as Gone Girl and The Post alongside Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. Also, you probably recall hearing her as Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Infinity War

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Besides appearing in this season of The Sinner, Coon has recently wrapped production on a few other projects including Kin, a sci-fi action flick set to premiere at the end of this month. What we are really looking for is a lead role for Coon in an epic drama movie. She is already the best on TV, and now it’s time for her to be the best in show biz.
