New Movies On Demand: ‘Blockers,’ ‘Beirut,’ ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ And More

Don’t even act like you ain’t been working for the weekend all week. Monday is not your friend. You had zero fun on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday tried to get close to you, with all of its “Thursday is the new Friday” nonsense. No! Friday is Friday, and today is Friday, and that means the weekend is nigh! And that means you will soon have time, time to do with as you please–and you’re in luck if “as you please” means “binge new movies.” Whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu, or your cable’s on demand service, there are always a lot of new releases out there waiting for you to discover!

You can forget paying full price for a movie if you want, because a lot of hot titles are now available to rent for a fraction of the cost of a movie ticket. You can rent the blockbuster monster-fightin’ sequel Pacific Rim Uprising, or you can check out the dark political comedy The Death of Stalin. If you want something a whole lot more intense, emotionally, then you can rent Unsane for a few bucks!

What else can you buy or rent this week? Find out by taking a look at the collection of raunchy comedies, dino adventures, and religious dramas now available for you to enjoy from the comfort of your very own home!

Blockers

Don’t let the trailer fool you. Yes, Blockers is a raunchy comedy wherein John Cena butt-chugs beer that ultimately splashes back on Ike Barinholtz. But, believe it or not (believe it), Blockers is also a raunchy comedy that frankly grapples with the sexual agency of teenage girls and dismantles a lot of the double-standard that surrounds how we treat men and women losing their virginity. There’s a lotta serious talk going on, along with all the butt beer and aggressive barf humor! Blockers will make you groan, make you think, and then make you laugh.

Beirut

Jon Hamm leaves his cool Mad Men persona (as well as his menacingly doofy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt persona) behind in this political thriller. Hamm stars as an ex-U.S. diplomat that’s sent to Beirut to negotiate a trade: one terrorist leader for one kidnapped CIA agent. Do things go right? Does everyone play nice? Is there a dark side to these proceedings, and is anyone haunted by past trauma? You’ll have to buy Beirut right now in order to find out how the deal goes down, or you can wait and rent it starting on July 3.

Call Me By Your Name

There’s no way I can sum up this phenomenal film better than Decider’s very own Joe Reid:

A screen romance that translates the intoxicating, frustrating, head-swimming rush of a physical attraction that takes you fully by surprise. Director Luca Guadagnino and his utterly perfect cast — the nominated Timothee Chalamet, the unjustly robbed Michael Stuhlbarg, the aggravatingly perfect Armie Hammer, the unsung Amira Casar — built a world that exists very much of its time and place (the 1980s Italian countryside) while still seeming so deeply relatable on any number of emotional and memory levels. It’s a triumph of desire and fleeting moments that will rightly linger in cinematic history.
