If you’ve been craving an iconic TV series to binge this weekend, we’ve got some good news: as pointed out by a user on Reddit, all 12 seasons of NYPD Blue are now on Hulu. Get ready for some television that was considered risqué by ’90s standards.
Created by Steven Bochco and David Milch, NYPD Blue is a police procedural that follows the fictional 15th Precinct detective force in Manhattan. The series was widely praised for its grittiness and realistic depiction of police life, tones that would later go on to inspire the TV landscape of today. Several of its episodes, including “True Confessions” and “Hearts and Souls” have appeared on lists counting down the greatest episodes of television of all time, but NYPD Blue wasn’t without controversy. Specifically, the show’s depiction of nudity and alcoholism were criticized by viewers. The series originally premiered on ABC and was the network’s longest running one-hour drama until Grey’s Anatomy passed that record in 2016.
NYPD Blue coming to Hulu isn’t that much of a surprise, but its timing is. In July of 2017, it was announced that several shows from 20th Century Fox Television Distribution would be coming to Hulu in a new deal with the streaming service, and NYPD Blue was among the shows listed. So far, most of the shows, including Glee, How I Met Your Mother, The Bob Newhart Show, Better Off Ted, Dollhouse, and The Grinder have come to Hulu, but there are still a few missing.
Specifically, The Bernie Mac Show, Burn Notice, White Collar, M*A*S*H, and the American version of Wilfred are all supposed to come to Hulu through the deal at some point in the future. Decider has reached out to Hulu about NYPD Blue and whether or not there are any updates as to when the aforementioned five shows will arrive on the platform. We will update this article if and when we hear back.
