Trick Your Kids Into Going To Bed Early On New Year’s Eve With Netflix’s Countdown Videos

New Year’s Eve is the one holiday that begs you to stay up late, well past your bedtime if you’re a kid. That makes it the exact opposite of Christmas Eve, the holiday that requires kids to get in bed early so parents can get to putting together whatever massive, decal-covered contraptions they’ve purchased. But New Year’s Eve is also for the parents, as a lot of the night’s traditions are not G-rated (basically drinking and kissing). So what do you do if you have kids that refuse to go to bed before ringing in the new year?

You trick them! You trick them with Netflix!

For another year in a row, the streaming service has created a series of countdown videos featuring characters from their kid’s shows, which can be played whenever parents feel like manipulating their children’s perception of time. The characters included in the countdown conspiracy hail from the shows All Hail King Julien, Beat Bugs, Trollhunters, Skylanders Academy, True and the Rainbow Kingdom, Word Party, Larva, and Puffin Rock, so pick your kid’s favorite and let them feel the magic of welcoming in the New Year at around 8 PM local time (that’s when Netflix says these videos are usually played).

You can access these videos by searching Netflix for “countdowns,” and the service will keep them up until January 31 just in case you want to make cartoon character countdowns a recurring part of your lives.
