Netflix’s ‘Ultimate Beastmaster’ Season 2: “It’s Like a Transformer & Godzilla Had a Baby”

Earlier this year, Netflix successfully entered the reality competition game with the Ultimate Beastmaster. Premiering in February, the thrilling 10-episode series dazzled viewers with its mix of high-octane action and international intrigue. Now, just ten months later, the Beast has returned for Season 2. Produced by Sylvester Stallone and Dave Broome (The Biggest Loser), Ultimate Beastmaster is a unique international competition. Featuring a fearless assortment of combatants from six different countries, nine customized local versions of the series (complete with nine different sets of hosts) air internationally. The rules of the series are simple: THERE ARE NO RULES.

Just kidding. There are a ton of rules and regulations. How else would you crown a winner? Plus the legal pitfalls would be too numerous to avoid.

During each episode, twelve athletes (two from each country) compete against one another on the “nastiest obstacle course ever devised” to take home $10,000 and the title of Beastmaster. The winners of each episode then face off on the final installment for a chance to win $50,000 and the distinguished title of Ultimate Beastmaster.

To say that the competition in the sophomore season is fierce would be an understatement. Over 100 new athletes from six different countries compete on an obstacle course described as the offspring of “a Transformer and Godzilla,” which is daunting sure, but also kinda nice that those two crazy kids found love. The cast of athletes are a diverse mix of combatants that include Olympians, climbing champions, professional fighters, parkour stars, and professional acrobats. As we learned in Season 1, there’s no definitive alchemy to taming this physically demanding obstacle course; it’s 650 tons of unforgiving terror. But part of the inherent fun of the reality series is attempting to select the winner at the beginning of each episode and, if you’re anything like me, failing miserably with your prediction.

One major different between seasons is the change in hosts. Last year, the energetic duo of Terry Crews and Charissa Thompson proudly represented the U.S.A. This year, former NFL star Tiki Barber and comedian and Chris DiStefano have the honor of cheering on the red, white, and blue.
