Did You Know The White Lady On ‘The Magicians’ Is TOTALLY Polaris From ‘The Gifted’?

The mysterious White Lady is by far the most striking image from The Magicians Season Two. Half doe, half nymph-like woman, she is a mystical being from the land of Fillory. Legend says that she will grant a wish to any who trap her. So, naturally, Quentin (Jason Ralph) and Penny (Arjun Gupta) embark on a journey to find her in Episode 4. When they finally do capture her, she is more puckish than compliant. She’s sassy, vulgar, and bizarrely sexy. She becomes more than an image to hang a marketing campaign around because she is an absolutely arresting character.

She’s also Emma Dumont, the dancer/actress who has been stealing the show on Fox’s The Gifted this fall. I’ve actually written at length about how good Dumont is as Lorna Dane, aka Polaris, on the X-Men-inspired drama. In fact, I argued that the show should shift focus from the tedium of the Stucker family’s drama to Polaris, her boy toy Eclipse, and their cadre of “hot, sexy, messy mutants.”

Emma Dumont just might be on the verge of a breakout this year, but she’s been lighting up the screen for a while. She made her film debut at the age of 12 in the Mark Duplass/Melissa Leo film True Adolescents. However, you might best remember her as Melanie Segal on Bunheads. The Amy Sherman-Palladino series only lasted a season, but has already achieved cult status amongst critics and will hit Hulu tomorrow. Dumont has also appeared in Aquarius and Inherent Vice.

If Bunheads didn’t tip you off, Dumont is also classically trained ballerina. It’s a skill that likely helps when she’s doing physically demanding stunts on The Gifted, and it probably helped her land the part of the White Lady. Check out this behind-the-scenes look at how Dumont was transformed into the eerily beautiful character — and then check out The Magicians on Netflix and The Gifted on Hulu.
