The doc explores the events surrounding the 2008 suicide of Litoff’s sister Ruth; while Litoff initially believes that this process will bring her peace, it ultimately ends up weighing on her in a very dangerous way. In order to cope with her immense feelings of guilt, Litoff backslides into addiction, and it’s not long before the filmmaker’s well-being becomes a pressing concern. 32 Pills is by no means a happy watch, but if you’re interested in artistic expression, mental illness, and how they intersect, this documentary should be at the top of your list.
