What Is The Release Date For The Will Smith Netflix Movie ‘Bright’?

December has become the unofficial time for blockbuster releases, and this winter, Netflix has a huge one planned. Bright, Will Smith’s Netflix big budget sci-fi movie, is coming to your account, and it will be here before you know it.

This past year, the streaming service made good on its promise that it would enter the film industry in a big way. Netflix has already started to dominate critical circles with the premieres of Okja and The Meyerowitz Stories, and according to a recent earnings call, Death Note, Naked, and To the Bone were all notable successes for the streaming service. However, Bright marks a different goal for Netflix. If the David Ayer-directed film is a success, it will mark the first time a huge action epic led by an A-list actor has premiered on Netflix instead of in theaters. Here’s everything you need to know about Will Smith‘s new movie as well as when you can expect to stream it.

What’s Bright on Netflix about?

For this one, Netflix and Ayer are diving into a genre that the Men in Black, I, Robot, and I Am Legend actor knows well — bizarre sci-fi grounded in a hero’s journey. Bright is set in an alternate version of present day in a world in which orcs, elves, and fairies coexist alongside humans. The film follows two L.A. police officers, one a human and one an arc, as they go on a night patrol that will ultimately change the future as they know it. The duo have to figure out how to deal with their differences while protecting a young female elf and a forgotten relic, both which have the ability to destroy everything.

If it sounds insane, well that’s because it kind of is. But remember that Will Smith once helped turn a comedy about aliens overtaking New York into a trilogy worth billions. And that franchise included several Will Smith rap originals.
