If you’re one of the thousands of Americans who purchased a new television on Black Friday, it’s likely that your shiny new TV has 4K/Ultra HD capabilities. The ridiculously sharp picture quality will change your life, but knowing where to start your new Ultra HD journey can be a little daunting. That’s where we come in.

The best way to get the most bang for your 4K buck is to head immediately over to Netflix to sample their vast Ultra HD library. There, you’ll find a great selection of Netflix Original shows, films, and comedy specials that will make you wonder how you’ve been slumming it in standard definition for so long. Pretty much every Netflix Original from the last three years has either been produced in or converted to 4K, and many of their recent releases are actually specifically geared for a 4K viewing experience. Why watch Dart chomp into Dustin’s pet cat in Season 2 of Stranger Things in standard def when you can see all the bloody action in the highest picture quality possible?

There’s one thing to know if you’re going to spend your holidays exploring Netflix’s 4K library: in order to take advantage of the high def offerings, you must have their $12/month Premium streaming plan. This sounds daunting, but in reality, most people already have this plan (it’s the one that lets you watch simultaneously on 4 screens). If you don’t have Netflix’s Premium plan, it’s only $4/month more than the Basic plan and $2/month more than the Standard plan, so it’s not a huge investment.

A few months ago, we highlighted the diversity of Netflix’s science and nature programming that’s available to stream in 4K. While the platform’s Ultra HD nature offerings are certainly still top-notch, it’s also worth noting that Netflix’s fall slate includes multiple Original series and films that deserve to be watched in ultra, ultra, ultra high def. Mindhunter, First They Killed My Father, and Alias Grace are just a few of the many titles that are bound to improve under a 4K viewing experience.
