New Movies On Demand: ‘Logan Lucky,’ ‘Amityville: The Awakening,’ ‘Atomic Blonde’ And More

We’re halfway through November and you can practically smell the turkey and stuffing in the air. Another work week done means you’re another week closer to Thanksgiving and all the food and fun that comes along with it. But before you get your #thankful on, you still have a weekend and a few work days to get through. Why not spend some of that time cozied up with new movies, especially ones that will be hot topics at the upcoming family gathering. Whether you use Amazon VideoiTunesVudu or your cable’s on demand service, there are a lot of new releases out there waiting for you to discover.

The sexy spy thriller Atomic Blonde is finally available to rent, and well worth renting just to see Charlize Theron kick all the ass ever. If you want something way gentler, watch another one of Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon’s jaunty journeys in The Trip to Spain. For something a little weirder, the indie comedy Brigsby Bear comes from Saturday Night Live weirdo Kyle Mooney and reveals what happens when a children’s show ends and its lone fan decides to carry on its story.

What else can you buy or rent this week? Find out by taking a look at the collection of funny documentaries, chilling horror flicks, and animated adventures now available for you to enjoy from the comfort of your very own home!

Logan Lucky

Director Steven Soderbergh assembled an all-star cast (Channing Tatum! Katie Holmes! Adam Driver! Daniel Craig!) for this crime comedy about a family trying to pull off a big ol’ heist during a NASCAR race. A deep-fried Ocean’s Eleven (another Soderbergh heist), Logan Lucky was hailed by critics and will make for a rip-roaring good time this weekend. And if buying the film right now don’t sit right with you, you can wait and rent it starting on November 28.

Amityville: The Awakening

Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bella Thorne head-up this reset of the classic Amityville Horror franchise, a reset that saw its release delayed for a few years before finally arriving in theaters and on demand last month. This film actually takes place in “our” world, “our” meaning that the characters in this movie watch the original Amityville Horror movie as part of the plot. Trippy! The “real world” is no less scary than the horror film, though, as the ghosts of the Amityville household claim a braindead teen’s body and begin to torment the Walker family.

Obvious Child

The rom-com isn’t dead, it’s just gone indie! This thought provoking and charming 2014 film follows what happens when a standup comic (Jenny Slate) gets pregnant after a one night stand with a handsome rando (Jake Lacy). The usual rom-com complications come into play, but they’re handled with more depth, sincerity, and wit than usual, as this unlikely pair tries to figure out what their potentially intertwined future will look like.
