As Netflix increases their spending on original series and movies, the streaming platform is spreading the wealth all around the globe by investing in a far greater number of international projects. Last Friday, Netflix premiered Suburra, their first Italian original series, and today, the service is premiering Fe de etarras, their second Spanish language original movie, in each of the 190 countries where the platform operates.

Because Fe de etarras was produced and heavily marketed in Europe rather than the U.S., it’s possible that you haven’t heard about the film. However, we’re here to change that. Decider has answers to all of your burning Fe de etarras questions, plus answers to questions you didn’t even know you had.

So what the hell does “fe de etarras” even mean? Here’s everything you need to know before watching the Netflix original film.

They spend a lot of time sitting on the couch in this movie.

What Is Fe de etarras About?

Fe de etarras follows a dysfunctional group of terrorists as they wait in a safe house for a call telling them to go into action. The dark comedy is somewhat historical in that it takes place in Spanish Basque country in 2010, the year that Spain won the World Cup in South Africa. The rest of the country is celebrating the big win, but the terrorists remain cooped up in the house, where their differences and conflicting ideals threaten to drive them crazy.

So What Does “Fe De Etarras” Mean, Then?

Fe de etarras translates into English as Bomb Scared. On the Netflix U.S. website, the platform is advertising the film by its English name rather than its Spanish name, so it’s understandable that there’s some confusion surrounding the film.

Are There Any Big Stars in the Film?

The majority of the actors in Fe de etarras are big names in Spain but still little known in the United States. Perhaps the most well known star to American viewers is Javier Cámara, the actor who played Guillermo Pallomari in Season 3 of Narcos and Cardinal Gutierrez in The Young Pope. In the film, Cámara plays a military veteran who joins the terrorist organization to prove his bravery (does that ever end well?). Joining the Narcos star are Julián López, Miren Ibarguren, and Gorka Otxoa, all of whom have been staples of the Spanish film and TV scene for years.

What Are People Saying About It?

Well, nothing, really. Buzz around the film has been relatively low. When it premiered at the end of September at the San Sebastian Film Festival, it didn’t win any awards and was met with a surprisingly low level of interest. However, despite the seemingly low level of interest, the director and co-writer behind Fe de etarras, Borja Cobeaga, has produced many successful Spanish television shows, and in 2014, he wrote the highest-grossing Spanish film of all time, 8 apellidos vascos (Spanish Affair). Regardless of the lack of critical attention, Cobeaga clearly knows what he’s doing, so we’re not worried about the Netflix film’s chances for success.
