‘The Crown’s’ John Lithgow Wins The 2017 Emmy For Best Supporting Actor In A Drama

John Lithgow found himself in a familiar position tonight as he captured the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for his powerful portrayal of Winston Churchill in the Netflix drama The Crown. The venerable actor with have yet another statue to add to his growing collection as Lithgow previously won three Outstanding Lead Actor Emmys for 3rd Rock from the Sun and also earned another win for his chilling performance as the Trinity Killer on Dexter.

“Well, this is fantastic,” Lithgow said. “I feel so lucky to have won this in the company of my fellow nominees. The Crown just keeps on giving and this is just the last of its gifts.”

Lithgow’s win is even more impressive when you factor in the host of talented actors who were nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama. The Crown star defeated Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul), Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us), David Harbour (Stranger Things), Michael Kelly (House of Cards), Mandy Patinkin (Homeland), and Jeffrey Wright (Westworld).
