The great content exodus from Netflix continues. Vulture’s Josef Adalian is reporting that the legendary sitcom How I Met Your Mother will be leaving the streaming giant “sometime this fall.” This news comes hot on the heels of the upcoming removal of popular fan favorites 30 Rock and Friday Night Lights from the service, departures that Decider confirmed earlier this week.
That’s not all that’s on the chopping block, either. What’s On Netflix reports that Malcolm in the Middle, My Name is Earl, Prison Break, and more will leave on October 1, and American Horror Story: Hotel and Freak Show, The Grinder, Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, and a handful of others will depart in the following weeks.
So, Netflix subscribers, is it time to freak out? That depends on what you use Netflix for. For simplicity’s sake, let’s keep our focus on the nation’s Barney Stinson fans for now. If you’re currently making your way through a HIMYM binge and still don’t know who the titular Mother is, you still have some time to finish things up; remember, TV MoJoe‘s report said that the show is leaving “sometime this fall.” That said, even if the show’s expiration date sneaks up on us quickly, the series is also currently available to stream in its entirety over on Hulu, thanks to a deal that 20th Century Fox television struck with Hulu earlier this summer. So, either way, it should be easy enough for you to soon experience the same crushing sense of disappointment about the finale that the rest of us felt, with or without Netflix.
